Seed 1: Interfacial coupling and tuning in mixed-dimensional heterostructures
This project aims to establish a framework for forming 3D/2D/3D heterostructures with new degrees of freedom in engineering the crystals and interfaces, which will enable elucidating the interfacial properties and their tunability in these artificial systems.
Seed 2: Using Altermagnets for Straintronics Applications
The purpose of this seed project is to determine how the magnetic properties of altermagnets, a recently identified class of magnetically ordered materials, can be controlled through the application of lattice strain
Seed 3 (Outreach): A traineeship in programmable photonic computing
The team has established key foundational capabilities through training in software, cleanroom processes, AI, and photonic memristor research while developing an initial framework for inverse-designed photonic structures with six undergraduate students. The project is actively engaging with MRSEC researchers and shared facilities and is exploring internship partnerships with national laboratories to strengthen collaborative research and workforce development opportunities.
